Luca Bacchetti “TANGO” Crosstown Rebels 084

By Matteo on September 9, 2011 | Category: Luca's blog, News | Tags: , , , , |

Crosstown Rebels turn up the heat with Luca Bacchetti’s sensational ‘Tango’, a record setting dancefloors ablaze with its raw passion and drive, presented here with an inspired ‘Voodoo Remix’ from Venezuelan producer Eduardo Castillo.

Luca Bacchetti’s productions are a window to his soul and his extensive musical background has informed an ambitious and inventive style. With quality output on key labels Hideout, Ovum, Wagon Repair, and now Crosstown Rebels, the emphasis is always on creativity and pushing the envelope. ‘Tango’ comes at a crucial phase of personal and artistic development. It highlights a longing for the element of surprise in music and the need to convey that essential ingredient, passion.

As an Italian, Luca has always felt a particular closeness with South America and the passionate disposition embedded in the culture is part of that bond. It’s the connection between Victor Hugo Morales, Juan Gelman, Diego Armando Maradona, and the Tango: passion, imagination, elegance, emotion, energy. These qualities are also the essence of a Bacchetti production.

As Luca puts it, “Over the last year I was getting bored with a lot of what I was hearing, the blandness was making me uncomfortable so I began to feel the need to break away, travel, and find a way to look inside and reach back to my roots, to something passionate. The music scene is like the thermometer of society at large and the Tango in particular has always fascinated me with its sensuality and energy”.

The original ‘Tango’ is indeed a sensual yet playful ride. Textured with propulsive rhythms, a teasing b-line, haunting melodies, trembling keys and traditional percussive flair, ‘Tango’ is lighting up dancefloors at the hands of label boss Damian Lazarus and is sure to captivate all with its Latin-inspired grooves and sexy, driving kick. LA based Eduardo Castillo delivers an ingenious interpretation in the aptly named ‘Voodoo Remix’ at first stripping down the groove then fanning the flames with emotive strings, the snake-charming effect of his own authentic voice echoing throughout. Seduction incarnate and a worthy contender for Crosstown track of the year.

Beatportal: Bomb Alert!!!!!

By Matteo on August 12, 2011 | Category: Davide's blog, Luca's blog, News | Tags: , , , , |

Hideout, the label run by Luca Bacchetti and Davide Squillace, finally drops a tune that’s been the talk of Ibiza this summer: “That Ginger Ponytail,” a collaboration between Squillace and Argentina’s Guti. Bright vibraphones and shimmying shakers give the track a refreshing, easygoing touch, reflecting the way the tune came together.

The session was done “at night,” says Squillace, “with lots of drinks and cigarettes in a very relaxed environment. I would work on some bits, and Guti played keys—apparently it worked out.”

Apparently! Rounding out the release come remixes from Dubfire and Kerri Chandler. “We have been close friends with Ali for the last four years, and I thought he would enjoy working on the remix of this track,” says Squillace. “As for Kerri, he started playing for Circoloco this year and we got closer as friends, and music-wise. I thought this track would definitely fit his style, and they both did an amazing job, as expected.”

For more from Squillace, check out a new interview with him on the Hideout website, and see RA profiles for Squillace and Bacchetti to find out where to catch them behind the decks.

Keep reading to check out the release, plus charts from Squillace and Bacchetti.

Fabric Blog | Luca Bacchetti WYS! promo mix + Interview

By Matteo on August 9, 2011 | Category: Luca's blog, News | Tags: , , , , |

Barcelona relocated Tuscan native Luca Bacchetti has risen to notoriety through releases on Wagon Repair and Ovum records and more recently through the activity of his own music and lifestyle brand Hideout. Ahead of his headline slot here this Sunday, The WYS! crew caught up with him to discuss his recent exploits and to introduce his WYS! Promo Mix for our blog.

>> Free download

WYS!: Hi Luca, What have you been up to recently?

Luca: Most recently I’ve been really busy working on some new releases. I’ve been feeling the need to work on own production instead of remixes to keep things interesting for me. I’m really happy with how it’s been going and hope you feel it when I release it in the Autumn. Studio time and touring with Hideout has been keeping me pretty busy at the moment – got a lot on my plate!

WYS!: Tell us a little about how Hideout came about, you’ve described it as being more than just a music label, and your website boasts interesting divisions such as style detecting and video art, can you tell us a bit more about these and other upcoming projects?

Luca: Exactly, that’s what the label is about – when you’re passionate about something it becomes more than work, your working life and personal life end up being one and the same thing. Hideout is a way of life for us and everything we like becomes HIDEOUT. In terms of specific releases, there’s lots coming from Davide & Guti, as well as my new EP and some new artists that will be announced soon.

WYS!: How do you manage your time, between touring, running the label and making music, do you try to prioritise anything at any point?

Luca: Touring takes up so much time and there’s not much time to stop and relax worked into my schedule, but I try to find time to enjoy nature which is always a source of inspiration for me.

WYS!: You’ve mentioned that you love to travel, how do you feel this ties into your creative work, do you take any influences from places you’ve been to?

Luca: Travelling is essential for me, it may sound selfish but when I travel alone I get the most out of it – it’s when I’m alone and see everything flow by that I can tune into my own personal trip. It’s not necessarily about being on a beautiful beach in South Australia or riding the Metro in NYC, inspiration can come on a night flight over the Pacific while listening to music. Lots of these experiences have gone on to inspire me later in the studio. It’s difficult to explain how images turn into music it’s a really personal process, even the title of a song can help evoke a feeling. Lately South America’s been a particularly big inspiration, it’s such a passionate place.

WYS!: One of the advantages of working with digital technology is the ability to create and distribute things quickly and to a wide audience, however this also increases the amount of work out at any one time. What approach do you take towards making your work unique whilst still being accessible?

Luca: Thankfully technology also helps manage the sheer volume of work but it’s the human factor, being motivated and keeping on top of things that makes the real difference here.

WYS!: And lastly, what advice would you give to people thinking about starting a career in music but are unsure of the industry’s future. Do you have any encouraging words to share?

Luca: It’s hard to give out specific advice, all I can really say is that I think it’s really important to follow that little voice you have inside.

Luca Bacchetti | Pulse.032 Podcast + Interview

By Matteo on June 21, 2011 | Category: Luca's blog, News | Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

As it’s Sonar, our latest podcast comes from Barcelona resident Luca Bacchetti. Pulse.032 features two hours of house in all it’s forms! Plus a special interview, Mikele Tabucchi caught up with Luca following a day at the crazy circus.

download Pulse.032 Luca Bacchetti >> here

Pulse: How has the first year and half of Hideout’s existence been, can you give us some anticipations on label future?

Luca: For Davide and me Hideout is a gamble: in a very short space of time it has established itself in the marketplace as a label which doesn’t follow the going trends; but instead is governed by our instincts. As I have said Hideout isn’t just a label; but something which encompasses our vision, our lifestyle. This year we have hosted parties all over the world: twice at WMC, we will be at DC10 Ibiza on the 10th of August and Amsterdam for the ADE. But all this is not enough. It’s just one aspect of our work. Soon we’ll be releasing the new Patrick Lindsey EP and Davide & Guti’s new track plus remixes by Kerri Chandler and Dubfire to follow! Then my EP and a series of very talented new Italian artists.

Pulse: More and more you can hear purists saying that they like a DJ because “he plays only with vinyls” what are your thought on digital/vinyl discussions ?

Luca: I’m not interested anymore in the instrument used for a performance, what’s important to me me is that when we talk about music, we talk about quality. Those who make a point of boasting their vinyl “credentials” are just marketing themselves. like Ritchie Hawtin did with his promotion of new technologies. You can reach your objective either way, as long as you keep the Music at the centre of it all.

Welcome to Barcelona!!!!

By Matteo on June 15, 2011 | Category: Events, Luca's blog | Tags: , , |

Basically our job is to travel the world and bring music to the best venues … I consider myself to be really lucky to have achieved what I dreamed of as a kid … the travelling is probably the hardest part of the job; but also the most stimulating: touring has always been an integral part of music making, and for me it continues to be a source of inspiration … the more I travel, the more I’m broadening my horizons, and the more I find out there’s still so much left to discover!

I just got back from my American tour where once again I had the chance to meet some extraordinary people, visit some incredible places, and go further down the road of my own self-discovery: all this has fired me up and given me a huge adrenaline boost! But here we are and now it’s your turn to be on the move: this time it’s me who welcomes you to my hometown, this wild city which for the past two years has continually drained me and then charged me up again, over and over. A great place from which to set-out; but an even greater place to come back to …

Welcome to Barcelona, my friends! It’s Sonar time! See you Thursday!
